Low-profile shower tray or freestanding tub? A guide to choosing

Shower or bath? It is one of the first decisions when renovating the bathroom and influences the rest of the project: space, plumbing, and even tiling. In this IdeaCasa guide, we compare the two solutions and show you the Italian Artceram models for each.

Walk-in shower

The floor-level shower tray eliminates the entry step. The bathroom appears larger, access is easy for children and the elderly, and cleaning is quick.

What you need to know

• Screed space for the trap: the built-in shower tray needs height under the floor for the drain. This is checked before demolition.
• Correct waterproofing around the shower tray and on the shower walls.
• A wall or glass panel to contain water in the shower area.

Artceram ceramic shower trays

• Aquanit – floor-level, with a stainless steel grille. It is used with the ACA094 low-profile trap.
• Lapis – 3 cm thick, non-slip surface, 10 sizes. It is completed with the Lapis drain set (Ø90 ACA071 valve + ACA072 grille).

Freestanding bath

A freestanding bath in the bathroom becomes the centerpiece of the room. It is the right choice if the bathroom is also used for relaxation, not just for quick hygiene.

What you need to know

• Clear space around: a freestanding bath only looks good if it has room to "breathe" and can be cleaned around.
• The faucet: floor-mounted or wall-mounted; the floor-mounted one must be planned before the screed.
• The drain: its position is established before the floor, depending on the bath.
• Weight: a bath full of water is heavy; in an old house, the floor joists should be checked.
